SUPPORT NEW INVESTMENTS IN RESEARCH THAT ENHANCE AGRICULTURE PRODUCTIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
We all want nutritional/safe food that is produced with sound and sustainable farm practices that is affordable for consumers and allows farmers, agriculture and food companies in Minnesota to be profitable.
It is important to recognize we don’t yet have all the answers and tools to meet these objectives. More scientific research and new discoveries are key to helping meet these expectations.
Combined with research funded by private industry and agricultural organizations, we urge the state of Minnesota to commit to additional investments over the next budget cycle to help fund new agriculture and food science/research into new practices and discoveries, with a priority on:
Sustainability – help discover new on-farm practices and technologies that enhance productivity, further protect our soil and water resources and more efficiently use energy and other inputs to produce food for consumers in local, national and global markets
Food Safety – better protect animals and plants from disease and enhance overall food safety for consumers
Feed More People – further improve agricultural productivity to provide affordable food to feed more people throughout the world with less impact and better nutrition
